Inclusion in Action: Interview with Jean Hakuzimana, Founder of NH Songa

Tell us a little bit about your organization’s mission.

NH Songa seeks to build our workforce and establish connections and new relationships between local businesses, employers, and the immigrant community in NH.

What does your organization offer to professionals in the Concord area?

Education through conversations about immigrants in the workforce, professional advice on how to hire and retain immigrants, and consulting with companies/organizations to be culturally competent.

Can you share a little bit about yourself, and your connection to this work?

I migrated to Concord, NH in 2018. I went through a path of career challenges to integrate into the new community. From that experience I would like to own the mission to help new Americans and host communities foster, empower, and benefit each other from mutual collaboration in the area of workforce and beyond.

What makes this year’s conference special?

We want to learn from companies and organizations that have done an excellent job by intentionally creating an immigrant inclusive workforce, and how they are surviving what some call impossible—is it even worth the try? We are going to award some of these best practices. We will also hear from new Americans on how they thrive in the workplace. At the end, we will hear how much the immigrant workforce boosts the economic growth of NH again and again.
